If you lop the front bulkhead off a Super pan, and then weld on a ball joint or link pin bulk head, you'll be on your way to getting your Imp assembled. (Of course you'll have to shorten the pan 12".) The VW 1600 they are referring to is what we call Type 3s (Squareback, Fastback, Notchback, Type 3 Karmann Ghia). The front suspension is not interchangible with the Beetle, and the floorpan is the same shape as the Thing or Karmann Ghia floorpan. The Type 3 isn't a suitable donor for an Imp build up. Tom
