That's a good question... the early Imps were made for almost twice as long as the later cars(4yrs vs 3yrs), but I've come across them equally.
If this dilemma was in front of me, I'd buy the Unique Imp, and restore the original Imp. The original one will bring more money down the road. Use the original one as an around-town run-about and make the replica as the dirt fun car.
My Imp is a street car and it's a blast to drive. I drive it to work, to friends' homes, to get parts, etc. People are always approaching me, asking questions and admiring it (even it needs a lot of body work).
That's my opinion...
