Custom VW Type 4

Most every car ever made has been customized to one extent or the other. Custom paint jobs, custom wheels/tires, and altered suspensions (lowering or raising) are among the things that car customizers do. It's all in a quest to being different from the rest of the cars on the road. What self respecting car buff would want to own a car that looks like every other car on the road?

The Type 4's unique features lend itself to becoming a very unique custom car. It's a pretty safe bet that you don't see a Type 4 everyday on your way home from work.

Too many VW people today are stuck in the "vintage" or "retro-custom" thought of customization. They want cars that reflect years of the past, hence the popularity of the EMPI stuff and stock accessories. An individual looking to customize a post '67 VW should look to modern day cars for inspiration. The Porsche cars are always great sources for ideas.

I've included a picture gallery of Type 4s that brave visionaries have customized and gotten the "look". These cars are among the best looking Type 4s around (in my opinion).

Another feature is a page that outlines how I foresee myself building a Type 4 someday. It's interesting reading if you've tossed around the idea but didn't have a thought of how to do it. I currently don't own a Type 4 (too many projects as it is), but I do plan on one day.
